|
| Alge, mildew pre-treatment: Mix 1/4 cup bleach with 1 gallon of cool water. Mix and apply to roof surface. Leave wet for 30 minutes and rinse thoroughly. |
Procedures for general purpose cleaning |
APPLICATION: All unnecessary and non-functional equipment must be removed from the roof. The substrate must be pressure washed ( Kool Roof, Roof Wash). A minimum working pressure of 1,500 psi should be used to remove all dirt, dust, previous paints & coatings, which are delaminating. Thoroughly rinse roof surface after cleaning. A standard agricultural pump-up sprayer can be used along with a deck brush to clean the roof, after which the roof must be thoroughly rinsed with clean water. If the roof has an excess amount of oil or grease, scrubbing with a deck brush may be needed. |
COVERAGE: Apply Kool Roof, Roof Wash at a rate of 500 sq.ft./ Gallon. Allow Kool Roof Roof Wash to stand for approximately 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Scrub or pressure wash roof surface, paying close attention to low areas of the roof. DO NOT ALLOW Kool Roof ROOF WASH TO DRY ON ROOF SURFACE. Repeat cleaning and rinsing until roof surface is completely clean.
To determine whether a roof surface has been cleaned satisfactorily, consider using this easy method: Once roof has been cleaned and dried, pressa3-4 inch long piece of masking tape to the roof surface. Rub the tape firmly onto the roof. Then, peel the tape off. If it laden with dirt, degraded roofing material or any other particulate, the roof is not sufficiently clean. Repeat cleaning process until the roof is properly cleaned.
Care should be taken to not to allow roof runoff to run down side walls. Runoff from roof could stain walls. If runoff affects walls, rinse thoroughly before it dries.

Procedures as an EPDM surface conditioner |
| APPLICATION: Use a pump-up agricultural type sprayer, conventional or airless spray equipment. Adjust nozzle to achieve a uniform spray pattern witha3-4 foot arch. Completely saturate the roof with Kool Roof Roof Wash and allow to dry for 15 minutes. |
| DECK BRUSH: Scrub surface with deck brush and a small amount of water. Cleaning should be done slowly so as to remove all mica and inorganic material. Continue to work the EPDM surface with deck brush while a hose is used to rinse the roof. Thoroughly rinse roof until runoff water is clear. |
PRESSURE WASHER: Use a pressure washer (1,500 -3,000 psi), keeping the tip within 12 inches of the EPDM surface. Cleaning should be done slowly so as to remove all mica and inorganic material. Throughly rinse the roof surface until roof runoff water is clear.
A squeegee is recommended to push excess water to the drains or roof edge to accelerate drying. After cleaning, the roof should be “jet black” in color, indicating proper chemical reaction has occurred. If the appearance is dull and weathered, repeat the cleaning process. Surface must be dry before the application of any other Kool Roof product. |
COVERAGE: Apply Kool Roof Roof Wash at a rate of 500 sq.ft. / gallon. Exceptionally dirty EPDM surfaces may require more than one treatment. Make sure EPDM surface is “jet black” prior to the application of any other Kool Roof product.
